What appetizer goes with a chicken entree?

My parent's anniversary is tomorrow and I am making a Chicken Francese with a Wilted Spinach salad. I need an appetizer and a dessert to finish out this three-course meal. I think I am going to do a pear dessert, but does anyone have a suggestion for what kind of appetizer I can do? I was think maybe a soup or a cheese-type dip/spread... I just don't know.
