Is there any way to repel flea bites?

My cat has a major flea infestation, and after "de-fleaing" her they've spread all over my flat and seem to be breeding. I've ordered some powder to leave all over my house but in the mean time is there anything I can use on myself, or eat, or purchase that will stop the little blighters from biting me, because I'm absolutely covered in bites, despite hoovering my bed every night before I sleep! It's getting annoying (and painful) Thank you.
