There is a song my mama used to listen to, cant remember who sings it, Help?

He sounds like Whintley Phipps, and the record is quite old, maybe early 80's or mid or maybe earlier than that, He sang "Amen" and he is a black man. sounds like there is a choir at the end of the song singing with him, does anyone know who im talking about? Thank you
