Can you communicate with the defendant at court?

I am going to attend my friend's court hearing tomorrow and I haven't talked to him since he was arrested nearly 2 weeks ago. I was wondering if it was possible for me to talk to him before or after the hearing? Like, when the call recess or something would it be possible to talk to him?
